21/12/2025- Winter solstice in Walton-le-Dale with Marshall's Mowing and Maintenance

Winter solstice and it's origins. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere the 21st December has been celebrated as the end of the dark and our transition towards the light, it is the shortest day and longest night after all. Each year the run up to this day can seem so dark, damp and dreary. For me in the UK, the winter solstice is a turning point in the year, where I know that the brighter, longer days are returning and soon we will see signs of the earth awakening. Bulbs will show, buds will be preparing for their show and we will undoubtingly experience frosts, with clear aquamarine skies. For Pagans it's an incredibly important time, they would bring evergreen branches and bows into the home to signify resilience to the dark and cold, for them, Christmas day was a time when the sun would begin to show above the horizon again, bringing it's warmth to the earth. Exciting times for all who appreciate nature in it's many forms, and understand that our earth goes through these seasons, as it always has, and always will, we are lucky enough to be here to witness it. Wishing you all a fabulous festive period, and wonderful New Year! Take care Scott
